    Abstract:

    Reflection lines and highlight lines are effective tools in assessing the quality of a surface. An efficient NURBS surface local fairing method was presented based on quality detection lines (reflection lines or highlight lines) of the patch. First, the fair patch has been created in the local irregular area of the NURBS surface, and the part of original surface quality detection lines which has been in the patch area was replaced by the patch. The modified surface quality detection lines and the boundary conditions of original surface irregular area were utilized to build linear equations for surface local fairing. After the displacements of control points involved in the surface irregular area were computed, the displacements were smoothed according to the extent of the control points impact on the surface irregular area. Finally, the validity of this algorithm was verified by an example.
