    Abstract:

The aim of the study was to obtain crude antioxidants from toona sinensis leaves (ATSL) and evaluate its anti-oxidative activity. The optimum extracting condition was investigated by using orthogonal test with total anti-oxidative capacity (TAC) as index, and as follows: 50% ethanol as solvent, ratio of material to liquor was 0.1g/mL, at 80℃ for 3h, and extracted for two times. The anti-oxidative activities, including hydroxyl radicals, super oxide radicals and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals were studied. ATSL showed concentration-dependent free radicals scavenging activity. From a comparison of the C50 values for different anti-oxidative reactions, it seemed that ATSL was more effective in scavenging DPPH radicals than scavenging hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals. In linoleic acid emulsion, ATSL exhibited less inhibitory effect on lipid peroxidation as assayed by the ammonium thiocyanate method than BHT but stronger than L-ascorbic acid, and matched α-tocopherol at the same concentration of 0.05g/L.
