    Abstract:

The bending, tensile and compressive experiments of ramie xylem of the variety “Huazhu-4” were conducted by using an universal testing machine “RGT-10”. The results are as follows: for ramie “Huazhu-4”, the average bending modulus and strength of xylem are 7358.69MPa and 40.77MPa, respectively; and its Yong's modulus and tensile strength are 177.26MPa and 32.25MPa, respectively. Its average compressive modulus is 7.70MPa and bending modulus and strength are greater than its Yong's modulus and tensile strength. There is a distinct difference between tensile and compressive modulus. Xylem is a kind of anisotropic material and modeling its mechanical model needs anisotropic constitutive relations.
