The method and principle of apple orientation and turnover were described. An apple conveyer and turnover mechanism were specially designed to accomplish the orientation of different diameter apples and turn them over by the approximately same angular speed in order to collect and process the images of apples for apple grading in next step. Experiment results indicate that the mechanism could accomplish apple orientation and turnover, image collection results can meet grading requirement.
